An effective whistleblower protection system strengthens Taiwan’s leadership role in the field of international integrity issues and increases the willingness of whistleblowers to provide important information that helps combat corruption, reduce trade obstacles generated by corruption, enhance national competitiveness and maximize the positive effects of a culture of integrity. A proposal jointly signed by the Agency and Papua New Guinea for an APEC Workshop on enhancing whistleblower protection in corruption cases (hereinafter referred to as “this Workshop”) was put forward in 2016. Subsidies have been granted for this proposal which has been approved by APEC. The two-day workshop will be held in the Grand Victoria Hotel from July 19 to 20, 2017. Invited speakers include representatives of the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, the ASEAN CSR Network, the Korean Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), Australian and Korean scholars, experts from international NGOs and Transparency International Chinese Taipei and legal compliance specialists of Siemens and TSMC. In addition, 12 APEC member economies (Papua New Guinea, USA, New Zealand, Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Chile and Japan) have already confirmed that they will dispatch representatives to participate in this event.
