On August 13th, 2024, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Taoyuan City Government jointly organized the Summit for Enterprise Service and Ethical Corporate Governance. The summit focused on the ethical management of enterprises and the sustainable development of public-private partnership, conducting cross-domain discussions in great detail on the management mechanisms of public construction projects, the application of construction methods, and carbon fee collection, among other anti-corruption issues.
The summit was opened with speeches delivered by Cheng, Ming-Chien, Minister of Justice, and Chang, San-Cheng, Mayor of Taoyuan City. Distinguished guests in attendance included Yu, Hsiu-Tuan, Chief Prosecutor of Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office, Lin, Han-Chyang, Deputy Director-General of the Agency Against Corruption (AAC), heads and deputy heads of departments of the Taoyuan City Government, as well as Yeh, I-Chang, Chairman of Transparency International Taiwan. Huang, I-Fang, President of KEDGE CONSTRUCTION, was invited to give the keynote speech, sharing corporate experience on ethical governance and sustainable development. Furthermore, guests from the AAC, Department of Urban Development Taoyuan City, and Transparency International Taiwan elaborated on the enterprise integrity and governance, public-private partnership in public construction, and corporate service and operational risks. The discussions aimed to help promote enterprise integrity and sustainable integrity policies.
Last but not least, Wen, Tai-Hsin, Secretary-General of Taoyuan City Government, hosted the opinion exchange session. Representatives from the Department of Urban Development Taoyuan City, Department of Public Works, AAC, Transparency International Taiwan, and KEDGE CONSTRUCTION participated in in-depth discussions. The session conducted in-depth discussions on the ethical management of enterprises, as well as issues encountered or needing attention in public construction projects.
Cheng, Ming-Chien, Minister of Justice, pointed out in his remarks that the summit successfully gathered representatives from enterprises, industry associations, and government agencies to focus on issues concerning the industries. This included management mechanisms of public projects, the application of construction methods, and carbon fee collection. The cross-domain interactions between the public and private sectors could help resolve problems facing enterprises, as well as respond to the needs of industries. Apart from imparting more knowledge on anti-corruption work and public construction projects, the summit demonstrated the dedication of parties involved in maintaining high-quality construction services, thereby demonstrating the philosophy of enterprise integrity. The AAC has been tasked by the MOJ to promote the Integrity Platform for Enterprise Services, aiming to use the platform as a communication mechanism with enterprises on diverse anti-corruption issues, thereby strengthening the ethical management of enterprises and their commitment to undertaking social responsibility. The effort can enhance the integrity culture among enterprises, and facilitate public-private partnership, hence deepening the working relationship between the government and the private sector. This, in turn, can culminate in tangible public construction projects and intangible corruption-free culture becoming invaluable assets of the country, and thus elevating the competitiveness of Taiwan as a whole.
