Political Deputy Minister Chen hosted the “Joint Ceremony of Oath Taking of Newly Appointed Senior Ethics Officers, Bid Farewell to Retired Officers of Ethics Units, and Praised Model Anti-Corruption Officers in 2018”

The “Joint Ceremony of Oath Taking of Newly Appointed Senior Ethics Officers, Bid Farewell to Retired Officers of Ethics Units, and Praising Model Anti-Corruption Officers in 2018” was held on July 18 in the International Conference Hall at the Third Floor of the National Library. Political Deputy Minister Chen Ming-Tang witnessed the oath taking and hosted the ceremony. In the “Praising of Model Anti-Corruption Officers”, the English alphabet “S” was used in the design of the award to symbolize “Super” and “Special” of these officers in their outstanding performance and unique contribution to anti-corruption works. “S” also stands for “Sunshine” symbolizing the integrity and clarity that earned the trust of the people. This was the first time that praise for anti-corruption officers with distinguished performance was ever held to highlight the distinctive performance of these officers. This was also an occasion to reveal the role of these officers dictating for high flexibility and burden of workload so as to help the entities in continuous upgrading, and as an indispensable part of the government system. The oath taking by the newly appointed senior ethics officers representing their “accountability” while the citation and award to the retired anti-corruption officers is an expression of gratitude. The model anti-corruption officers insinuating “heritage and carrying on” of anti-corruption works. This ceremony depicted the meaning of anti-corruption work, with its distinctive heritage in the past and the prospect for the creation of a better future. 

In addressing the ceremony, Political Deputy Minister Chen Ming-Tang mentioned that all anti-corruption officers must play a dual-role in the central or local governments. On the one hand, they must uncover and investigate all unlawful acts of the government entities. On the other, they have to assist other fellow public officials in the entities. In the course of action, 1 plus 1 is not equal to 2, but may equal zero or infinity. The heads of all ethics units are expected to perform their duties in due diligence and avoid public officials from breaking the law because of insufficient attention. They should make the best use of their experience in leading the teams for the effective motivation of the potential of their staff in sustainable growth. Political Deputy Minister Chen expressed his deep gratitude to the 4 retired anti-corruption officers, and hopes they can provide support and give recommendation in anti-corruption and ethics policies by sharing their experiences with their successors in the future and act as volunteers in anti-corruption work. The model anti-corruption officers shall act as the model for all other fellow anti-corruption officers as the benchmark of learning. All anti-corruption officers are expected to learn more from their predecessors and seek breakthrough in their works, and work as a team with vitality. Finally, Political Deputy Minister Chen encouraged all anti-corruption officers to duly respect their work with enthusiasm, and to design and pursue different objectives for the task of care, protect and defend of civil servants through specific features and organizational culture of different entities.
