Chairperson Delia Ferreira Rubio and CEO Patricia Moreira Sanchez of Transparency International, with representatives from branch organizations in 17 countries of Asia-Pacific, a total of 38 guests, visited Taiwan. They met with Vice President Chen of the Republic of China on June 27, and expressed their recognition of our success in anti-corruption works in the meeting. They also visited the Agency Against Corruption (AAC) at 2:00 pm and were warmly received by Director-General Chu Chai-Chi of AAC.

Minister of Justice Chiu was invited to address the occasion. The Ministry of Justice has just held and concluded an international forum on anti-corruption in April with countries of diplomatic relations from Central America invited to Taiwan to share the experience of the regulatory system for anti-corruption and transparency policy in Taiwan. In June, AAC organized the “Exchange of Anti-Corruption between the Governments and the Private Sector in Asia-Pacific”. This event implied that the issue of anti-corruption is no longer limited by the national boundary. In the advocacy of clean politics and anti-corruption by the public sector, it could not succeed without the participation of the private sector and efforts of society. In addition, Justice Minister Chiu gave a brief presentation of the establishment of AAC in 2011 in accordance with the “United Nations Convention Against Corruption”. The AAC is a designated body of the state for the design of anti-corruption policy, enforcement of anti-corruption and prevention and investigation of corruption. The objective is to ensure a clean and competent government in our country.  

An exclusive interview has been arranged for the Chairperson Delia Ferreira Rubio of Transparency International and the representatives of the branch organizations in Asia-Pacific on the day of their visit to AAC. In the interview, AAC asked Chairperson Rubio the ways for seeking the breakthrough in anti-corruption works in Taiwan so that the ranking of Taiwan in clean politics could be improved and also for the advice of how to make AAC meet the expectation of Transparency International in anti-corruption. The guests also watched the multimedia presentation and the exhibition center of AAC, and also introduced the process of evidence gathering and related equipment used in the investigation. Lastly, the guests and representatives of AAC shared their experience and exchanged points of view in the practical works of anti-corruption.
